The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark

Our story of the week has been ‘The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark’ by Jill Tomlinson. Plop wasn’t keen on the idea of being a night bird as he was afraid of the dark, but as he and the Robins have discovered dark can be exciting, interesting and fun. Having listened to the story, Ruby was inspired to make her own models of Plop and his mother. Jack and Walker sent me photos of the telescopes they had made to look at the stars at night but unfortunately it has been rather cloudy this week! Robins found out a lot about owls and other nocturnal creatures from ‘Andy’s Secret Hideout’ on CBBC and used the information to practise writing labels, lists and sentences. I have been so impressed with the level of writing both at school and at home and have awarded a multitude of ‘good writing’ Dojo points. Louis and Sydney have worked particularly hard on sounding out words all by themselves. In phonics the children have begun learning digraphs and have really enjoyed practising their sounding and blending on PhonicsPlay games. We’ve also had lots of busy mathematicians practising addition. Christopher, Holly and Aurora have tried really hard recording numbers in their maths work. Despite the rainy days, there have been a lot of bright sparks in Robins this week!
