The Enormous Turnip

We pulled and pulled and pulled but we could not pull up The Enormous Turnip! Many of the children had never seen a turnip and we compared it with other seasonal vegetables like swede and butternut squash and found out which grow above and below ground. As well as acting out the traditional tale we also read ‘Pumpkin Soup’ by Helen Cooper and some of the children chose to practise their knife skills to create turnip soup. We had fun transporting pumpkins around the outdoor area and when one cracked open we enjoyed finding out what they look like inside and have decided to try planting some of the seeds next week.
