Carnival

This week we learned about the Notting Hill race riots of 1958, and how they ultimately led to the creation of the Notting Hill Carnival. The Carnival was designed to bring people together following the racial tension experienced in the area. We thought about different themes for floats and came up with individual designs. Next we worked in groups of three to create floats - it was an absolute riot of colour! We also went on a walk around Gretton with our 'suspicious eyes' open, as recommended by Jennifer Killick at the Literature Festival. You would not believe how many suspicious things there are around Gretton! We found some stone toadstools (probably made by Medusa), a parrot in a window (probably a robot) and a door covered with plants (probably a portal to another world)!
