Party Time

What a busy last week in Robins! The children were all super stars in the Christmas play and kept going for three performances. The angels twinkled beautifully in their dance, the sheep baaa-ed brilliantly and the well trained camels led the kings all the way to the stable. The children worked hard to learn all the words to the songs and we were very proud of their hard work. We got into the Christmas spirit making cards, decorations and wish lists for Santa. Robins enjoyed party games on Friday to Christmas music and some delicious jam tarts made by William. Happy Christmas Robins.

Fairytale Dress Up Day

Robins were transported to the Middle East on Tuesday as we visited The Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury to enjoy Aladdin, the pantomime. We booed at the wicked uncle, clapped along to the songs and giggled at the silly jokes. My thanks to the parents who so kindly helped with the transport as flying carpets were rather expensive! The children all looked great in their fairy tale costumes on Thursday (with a couple of Superhero guest appearances!) and enjoyed hunting around the school in search of fairy tale characters. They have all been working hard on their parts in the play which they are looking forward to performing next week.

The ice that formed in our outdoor area at the start of the week caused great excitement amongst Robins. They collected lots of interesting shaped pieces from the bottom of buckets and left them in the classroom to see how quickly they would melt. Mrs Netting brought in a giant ice brick she had made later in the week so that we could further investigate the thawing process. The children were surprised to find a robin hidden inside (not a real one!). The story of Sleeping Beauty led us to make fairy wands from pipe cleaners and beads as well as fruit kebab wands for casting magic spells. We also used fruit to help us practise addition sums and have enjoyed all the left overs as extra snacks!

Big Maths

Robins have been making fantastic progress with their phonics and it has been great to see so many of them sounding out and writing words independently. Having read the story of ‘Hansel and Gretel’, the children imagined what sweet treats the witch may have used to decorate her gingerbread house and wrote lists. We also made lists of ingredients to make gingerbread play dough. The story inspired some enthusiastic acting and we used clay to sculpt model houses whilst naming all the 2D shapes used. We went to the hall for some BIG MATHS using giant Numicon tiles, beanbags and cones to play counting and ordering games. At Forest School on the playing field we continued to practise counting using the fallen leaves and apples.
