Music
We are able to offer music lessons for children who wish to learn to play an instrument through our collaboration with a local company, The Music Guru. We currently offer tuition for guitar, piano and violin. Lessons take place during the school day and are usually individual lessons, personalised to the child. Children have the opportunity to play in assembly from time to time and music certificates are rewarded on a termly basis from their music teacher, so we are able to enjoy celebrating their musical achievements. We support children in striving to achieve music grade exams and celebrate these in school.
Every week during Wednesday's assembly we learn new songs and practise our singing with Mrs Sollis. This is a really upbeat and enjoyable assembly and we have learnt some exciting songs which we enjoy sharing every week in Celebration Assembly. We theme our songs based on the time of the year or special events and sometimes, e.g. Christmas time, we are able to perform these for our parents in church or at the Christmas play. Singing makes us happy and it's a fantastic way to end our school day every Wednesday!
We aim to offer additional musical experiences across the school. Examples of these include a 10 week course of violin lessons in Kingfishers and iPad Music sessions in Eagles.
We offer all children in KS2 the opportunity to attend Young Voices which takes place in January. This is an incredible experience, where thousands of children come together to form a choir, performing a variety of songs in front of an audience, including their families and friends. Young Voices requires children to commit to a weekly after-school club where they learn the music, the dance moves and the skills they need to perform. Then after all the hard work is done, children spend a fantastic day at Resorts World, Birmingham, where they rehearse and then perform. This performance is conducted by a professional conductor and is led by a real orchestra! It is a truly unique, special and incredibly memorable event that is enjoyed by pupils and staff alike.
