Friends of Gretton

Welcome!

Friends Of Gretton School, or FOGS, is the official name for our schools PTA (Parent Teacher Association). We are a registered charity (number 325037), run by an elected committee of volunteers. Our aim is to organise fun events and raise funds, in order to enhance and enrich school life for all pupils. By doing this we also hope to encourage closer links between parents, staff and pupils, building a strong sense of school community.

How is FOGS organised?

All parents/carers and teachers are automatically members of FOGS, but we are run by an elected committee of up to 8 parents and 2 teacher representatives. Our Annual General Meeting is held at the start of the school year, usually in October. At this meeting a committee is elected to run the PTA – which consists of Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and ordinary committee members. We then meet once every half term to organise events and discuss how the money raised should be spent.

How are funds raised?

FOGS organise various fun events throughout the school year. Popular events include after school Discos and Movie Nights, Bonfire Night at The Oak, Children’s Christmas Cards, Christmas Hamper Raffle, Tribute Nights and Ice Cream Fridays. We are always looking for new fundraising ideas, so suggestions are welcome!

How are funds spent?

FOGS aims to raise around £3,000 for the start of each school year. As these funds are in addition to the official school budget, we hold a committee meeting to decide how best to spend the funds. Teachers complete a Teacher Request Form, and decisions are based on our charitable aims – to enhance school life for all pupils by making learning as interesting, accessible and enjoyable as possible.

How can I be involved?

We all lead such busy lives, but every little really does help! You can donate time, money, raffle prizes, knowledge, advice, offers of services and skills. As we are a registered charity, we are also able to raise funds through Gift Aid and company matched giving schemes.

Extra hands to help out at events, either on the day or behind the scenes, are invaluable but what we need most is your enthusiasm and support! So please bring your children, family and friends to support the events organised – you really will make a difference to Gretton School, creating happy memories for you and your child and leaving a legacy for those that follow.
