Owls have been working hard on constructing Viking longships as our DT project for this term. We used paper mache to form the hull and in some instances learnt why it is important to make sure there are lots of layers of paper! It was a rather messy session but we really enjoyed it!
Once we had constructed our hulls we had to be patient and let them thoroughly dry out and in the meantime we designed our sails and shields to decorate the outside. We discussed that the pattern on the sails would have in all likelihood been very simple and the colours would have been fairly dull - no flourescent colours available.
Finally we had to paint the hull and ut the mast and sail in place. We now have a full fleet of Viking ships which look fabulous!
