This term Owls have been looking at light and dark in Science. We had already worked out and applied the principal that light only travels in straight lines with our project making periscopes. We now thought about what causes shadows and established that it is something blocking light from getting to its destination. In the morning we went out into the playground and noticed that all our shadows faced the same way. We drew round a shadow and went out later to discover the shadow was in a different position. This is because the Earth is spinning and so the sun is shining at us from a different angle. We later looked at how this was able to help humans tell the time before clocks were invented and we had a go at making our own sundials.
